About this page

Stock trades reported by members of Congress under the STOCK Act, with what each stock did afterward.

How to read it

STOCK Act
A 2012 law that requires members of Congress to report stock trades by themselves, a spouse or a dependent child within 45 days.
Periodic Transaction Report (PTR)
The form those trades are reported on. Amounts are given only as ranges, such as $1,001 to $15,000.
Owner
Member, spouse, joint or child, as written on the report.
What happened next
How the stock moved after the trade compared with the S&P 500. It measures timing, not the member's profit.

A real example

In 2020 several senators faced questions over stock sales made after private briefings on the coronavirus early that year. Those trades became public through the same STOCK Act reports this page is built from.

Explain it like I'm 13

Lawmakers write the rules for everyone, and some of them also own stocks. The law says they must tell the public when they trade, a bit like a referee who also plays having to show what bets he made. This page shows those notes.
