Legal note on Congress data
Under the Ethics in Government Act (5 U.S.C. 13107), information from congressional financial disclosure reports may not be used for any unlawful purpose, for any commercial purpose other than by news and communications media for dissemination to the general public, for determining or establishing anyone's credit rating, or for soliciting money for any political, charitable or other purpose. By downloading the Congress file you agree to use it only in ways the law allows.
Examples
Academic research on insider trading has long relied on Form 4 data. H. Nejat Seyhun's 1998 book Investment Intelligence from Insider Trading studied decades of insider purchases and sales. With these files a student can test a similar question in an afternoon, for example whether purchases with a high WallStPal Score did better than low ones.
Explain it like I'm 13
We collect the public notes that company bosses and big investors have to file, tidy them up, and put them in a spreadsheet anyone can open. You can use it for a school project, as long as you say where it came from.
